For 3 months in 2002, the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan produced 360 unique red and white striped "Final Edition" (FE) GTS Dodge Vipers.

The Final Edition GTS, which debuted at the 2002 Chicago Auto Show (Feb 02), is the last coupe version of the Viper made. Special features include a red with dual stone white striped paint scheme (the same as the 2000 Daytona and American Le Mans Series winning Viper GTS-R), red-stitched, black leather steering wheel and shift knob, and a sequentially numbered dash plaque (1-360). The final edition may or may not be ordered with the ACR package.

There were 34 Final Edition GTS ACR's built.

Final Dodge Viper Coupe to be Auctioned in Scholarship Fundraiser

Auburn Hills, Apr 24, 2002

DaimlerChrysler Corporation today announced that the last 2002 Dodge Viper will be auctioned May 7, in a Northwood University scholarship fundraiser. The Viper, a special Final Edition GTS Coupe numbered 360 of 360, will mark the end of coupe production at DaimlerChrysler's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. The all-new, redesigned 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 is offered exclusively as a convertible.

DaimlerChrysler has donated the car to raise money as part of Northwood University's sixth annual Detroit International Scholarship Showcase. DaimlerChrysler is the event's lead sponsor.

This year's theme is "Racing Toward a Successful Future," exemplified in the Dodge Viper's dominance in international endurance racing and the opportunity for success that Northwood students will realize through the funds raised by this event.

Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President, Sales, will serve as this year's honorary chairperson. He will join Northwood President and CEO Dr. David E. Fry in hosting the event.

The Final Edition Coupe, representing the last car built on the 2002 Dodge Viper platform, will be part of the only run of production Vipers to wear a Viper red with dual stone white-striped paint scheme. The white over red theme was the same one that carried the Viper GTS-R/T race car to motorsports acclaim with an outright win at the 2000 Daytona 24-hour sports car racing event and consecutive American Le Mans Series manufacturers championships.

The Dodge Viper GTS Final Edition is expected to hold special appeal to sports car enthusiasts and Viper collectors as a landmark in the product's history.

"This is the high water mark for the Viper Coupe," said Jim Julow, Vice President - Dodge Global Brand Center, DaimlerChrysler Corp. "The GTS Final Edition, the last of the production Viper coupes, is a response to loyal owners who have asked us to do something special to close this chapter of the Viper's history. Our other limited-availability models, such as the GT2 Championship Edition, have been resounding successes among enthusiasts looking for a piece of American sports car history."

In addition to the special paint striping, a number of other details distinguish the GTS Final Edition. Inside, red-stitched, black leather steering wheel and shift knob are unique to the model, with a numbered dash plaque recognizing each individual car from the series.

The live black tie auction, which has raised substantial support in the past five years for Northwood's scholarship fund, will be held at the Detroit Marriott Pontiac at Centerpoint. WJR-AM morning radio personality Paul W. Smith is the event's master of ceremonies.

Tickets are $150 per person. Corporate tables are also available.

Featuring a high-profile honorary committee of business and community leaders from across the country, the Detroit International Scholarship Showcase is considered by some to be one of the season's premier social events. The evening will spotlight the career curriculum and free enterprise approach offered by Northwood and honor those who have supported the university over its 43-year history.
